Made Trump What He Is

Stephen Kevin Bannon (born November 27, 1953) is an American media executive, political strategist, and former investment banker, who served as the White House's chief strategist in the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump during the first seven months of Trump's term. He is a former executive chairman of Breitbart News, and previously served on the board of the now-defunct data-analytics firm Cambridge Analytica.

Bannon was an officer in the United States Navy for seven years in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After his military service, he worked for two years at Goldman Sachs as an investment banker. In 1993, he became acting director of the research project Biosphere 2.

He became an executive producer in Hollywood, and produced 18 films between 1991 and 2016. In 2007, he co-founded Breitbart News, a far-right website which he described in 2016 as "the platform for the alt-right".

In 2016, Bannon became the chief executive officer of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and was appointed Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor to the President following Trump's election.

He left the position eight months later, and rejoined Breitbart. In January 2018, Bannon was disavowed by Trump for critical comments reported in the book Fire and Fury and left Breitbart.

After leaving the White House, Bannon opposed the Republican Party establishment and supported insurgent candidates in Republican primary elections. Bannon's reputation as a political strategist was questioned when former Alabama state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, despite Bannon's support, lost the 2017 United States Senate election in Alabama to Democrat Doug Jones.

Bannon had declared his intention to become "the infrastructure, globally, for the global populist movement." Accordingly, he has supported many national populist conservative political movements around the world, including creating a network of far-right groups in Europe.

In August 2020, Bannon and three others were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and money laundering in connection to the We Build the Wall campaign. The defendants allegedly enriched themselves, despite promising that all contributions would go to building a wall. Bannon pleaded not guilty and was pardoned by Trump before his trial date.

In November 2020, Bannon's Twitter account was permanently suspended after he suggested that top government infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci and FBI Director Christopher Wray should be beheaded.

Bannon was held in contempt of Congress in October 2021 after defying a subpoena by the House of Representatives committee investigating the 2021 United States Capitol attack. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on two criminal contempt charges on November 12, 2021, and turned himself in to authorities three days later.  He was convicted by a jury and he remains free during the appeal

Steve Bannon's Vision - Destroy Democracy

The right-wing fever swamps just can’t quit lying that January 6 was a false flag

Media Matters, Jan 25 2022

The conspiracy theory’s latest development: Suggesting that a defense attorney who worked in government decades ago is now a “cutout” for the FBI

The right-wing fever swamps are grasping at every possible straw to salvage a conspiracy theory blaming the January 6 insurrection on secret elements in the federal government — instead of supporters of former President Donald Trump who attempted to keep him in office by overthrowing American democracy. And the more one were to examine the people spreading the conspiracy theories, the more it looks like they are trying to distract from their own roles in that shameful national episode.

Steve Bannon Believes The Apocalypse Is Coming And War Is Inevitable

Huff Post, Feb 2017

Trump's top adviser thinks we're in "the great Fourth Turning in American history.”  In Bannon’s view, we are in the midst of an existential war, and everything is a part of that conflict. Treaties must be torn up, enemies named, culture changed. Global conflagration, should it occur, would only prove the theory correct. For Bannon, the Fourth Turning has arrived. The Grey Champion, a messianic strongman figure, may have already emerged. The apocalypse is now.

'The Tea Party to the 10th power': Trumpworld bets big on critical race theory

Politico June 2021

“This is the Tea Party to the 10th power,” Steve Bannon, Trump’s former adviser who has zeroed in on local school board fights over critical race theory, said in an interview. “This isn’t Q, this is mainstream suburban moms — and a lot of these people aren’t Trump voters.”

You can learn a lot about Steve Bannon by watching the films he made

Chicago Tribune Feb 2017

Although Bannon has produced the occasional fiction feature, most of his creative energy has gone into making nonfiction agitprop designed to whip viewers into a froth of either adulation or rage, but always into passionate political action. Unlike his most readily comparable counterpart, Michael Moore, who can be relied upon to serve up similarly sanguinary red meat to his base, Bannon prefers to stay in the background, wielding his auteurist power with an invisible hand.

"Dick Cheney. Darth Vader. Satan. That’s power": Steve Bannon speaks out

Salon Nov 2016

Caught in the midst of a national controversy surrounding his naming as top White House adviser to President-elect Donald Trump following a stunning upset victory last week, Steve Bannon railed against what he described as the elite liberal media that is slowly suffocating this nation.  “Dick Cheney. Darth Vader. Satan. That’s power. It only helps us when they—get it wrong. When they’re blind to who we are and what we’re doing,” Bannon said of his detractors who criticized the far-right, white nationalist movement that Breitbart and others have successfully rebranded as the alt-right.  “I’m not a white nationalist, I’m a nationalist. I’m an economic nationalist,” Bannon insisted. “The globalists gutted the American working class and created a middle class in Asia. The issue now is about Americans looking to not get f—ed over. If we deliver we’ll get 60 percent of the white vote, and 40 percent of the black and Hispanic vote and we’ll govern for 50 years. That’s what the Democrats missed, they were talking to these people with companies with a $9 billion market cap employing nine people. It’s not reality. They lost sight of what the world is about.”

Combative, Populist Steve Bannon Found His Man in Donald Trump

NYTimes Nov 2016

The Reagan presidency has been a recurring touchstone for Mr. Bannon since 1980, when as a 26-year-old Navy officer he talked his way into Mr. Reagan’s election night celebration. Mr. Bannon understood better than any other 2016 campaign strategist how many voters were seeking dramatic change, said Patrick Caddell, a veteran pollster, who all but predicted a Trump victory on election eve as most pundits were calling the race for Hillary Clinton. “He’s been the forerunner intellectually of this moment,” Mr. Caddell said. “His ideology is that of the outsider and the insurgent.”

Experts Raise Warnings About Steve Bannon’s New Cryptocurrency

Mother Jones, Jan 19, 2022

Last month, Steve Bannon, the former Trump campaign manager and White House strategist, announced his participation in a new venture: a cryptocurrency marketed to Joe Biden haters and Donald Trump devotees. He and Boris Epshteyn, another ex-Trump adviser, boasted that they had taken a “strategic ownership position” in a crypto coin called $FJB. That stands for Fuck Joe Biden.

The free-wheeling crypto space is rife with big promises and even scams.

On his podcast, Bannon began talking up the coin, of which they both had acquired significant amounts, as a “currency for the MAGA movement.” During one episode, Epshteyn hailed the $FJB coin as a tool to help Trump fanatics “let your feelings, your primal disapproval, your primal disgust with Biden be heard.” But $FJB buyers might want to beware. Not only does every purchase bolster the value of Bannon’s and Epshteyn’s holdings, crypto experts say the currency is designed in a way that affords its operators an unusual amount of discretion in blocking owners of coins from selling their tokens—a power that could cause problems for investors.

Another Day, Another Report About Steve Bannon’s Affection for Nazism

Slate, March, 2017

Earlier this week, we noted that an infamous American white supremacist named Jared Taylor had celebrated the return to prominence of an iconic 1970s white-pride novel called The Camp of the Saints—a book that has been in the news because it has been repeatedly praised in recent years by top Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon. Among its other charming qualities, the French novel—which depicts white civilization being overrun by rape-crazed minority mobs—refers to black characters as “niggers” and “rats.” Bannon apparently thinks it aptly predicted the current migrant crisis.

Twitter permanently suspends Steve Bannon account after talk of beheading

CNN Nov, 2020

Twitter permanently suspended an account belonging to former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon after he suggested Thursday morning that Dr. Anthony Fauci and FBI Director Christopher Wray should be beheaded. His comments were made in a video posted to his Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter accounts.

Bannon falsely claimed President Trump had won reelection, despite several key states still being too close to call, and said that he should fire both Fauci and Wray.He then said he would go further: "I'd put the heads on pikes. Right. I'd put them at the two corners of the White House as a warning to federal bureaucrats. You either get with the program or you are gone."

Steve Bannon...American Rasputin

Bannon: "Tea Party to the 10th Power"

Steve Bannon is behind yet another effort to push hate.

“This is the Tea Party to the 10th power,” Steve Bannon, Trump’s former adviser who has zeroed in on local school board fights over critical race theory, said in an interview. “This isn’t Q, this is mainstream suburban moms — and a lot of these people aren’t Trump voters.”
Former top aides to President Donald Trump have begun an aggressive push to combat the teaching of critical race theory and capitalize on the issue politically, confident that a backlash will vault them back into power.
These officials, including Trump’s former campaign chief and two former budget advisers, have poured money and organizational muscle into the fight. They’ve aided activists who are pushing back against the concept that racism has been systemic to American society and institutions after centuries of slavery and Jim Crow.
The immediate goal, two Trump alumni said, is to get legislative language included in a must-pass bill. The larger one is to harness a national movement that could unseat Democrats.
