Douglas County is Unique

Although Colorado's population has become more liberal over time, conservative interests in Douglas County are acting on their self-perception that the county is on the "road to destruction" due to creeping liberalism.

Living one of the wealthiest counties in America, many ideologues are focused on maintaining their control over local governance and the economy. This reactionary stronghold often creates an unwelcoming environment for those who do not share similar beliefs, attributes, or strict moral values.

A significant factor in this mentality is the development of Highlands Ranch in the 1980s by the Mission Viejo Company, which sought to replicate a highly conservative community similar to those in Orange County, California.

Over the ensuing years, Douglas County has served as a prototype for right-wing movements and ideologies at the national level. One notable example is the decades-long struggle for control of the Douglas County School District.

What is JSNE's mission?

JSNE aims to highlight the interconnected nature of local right-wing thinking and planning, and direct ties to the broader ideological landscape of Trumpism, MAGA, and white evangelical nationalism. This evidence is published through various platforms, including social media, a website, and direct communications.

What is JSNE's practical purpose?

JSNE investigates and reports on the often covert activities of local figures—elected officials, political parties, and their affiliated institutions—in the context of their associations with divisive extremist ideologies at both the state and national levels. These ideologies include Trumpism, MAGA, dark money funding, astroturfing, evangelical nativism, and anti-government militias. There are also concerns about local government corruption and favoritism towards affluent community members.

Our goal is to provide research that supports the ongoing narrative of Douglas County's role as a testing ground for national right-wing movements and ideologies. We rely on relevant content from a network of trustworthy investigative journalists, independent media outlets, and watchdog organizations.

Additionally, we aim to identify billionaires and organizations funded by dark money that are promoting far-right ideologies, both locally and nationally. We publish and disseminate JSNE's work through our website and social media, encouraging activism by "poking the bear."

JSNE is an independent, non-partisan effort - we are volunteer-based and non-commercial. As such, JSNE's work is a public service; we do not seek or accept outside contributions, nor do we sell paid subscriptions or products. JSNE is registered as a limited liability corporation in Colorado.
